10 questions for Joan López

Today, Dev-Strategist Joan Lopez is going to answer 10 questions about his work and life at the netzstrategen.

1. When did you become part of the team?
I joined the netzstrategen team in August 2017. Before that, I’d been working as a freelance web developer for quite a long time and my last four years were as an „external resource“ in an insurance company IT department in Barcelona.

2. What do you like most about netzstrategen?
The openness, transparency and communication flow at all levels is amazing. I haven’t seen anything like this before. Also, the absence of a pyramid-like hierarchical organisation and the team spirit is really refreshing: you really are your own and only boss. It’s just like being a real freelancer again but working closely with great colleagues!

3. What are your daily responsibilities and in which field are you specialised?
I am a web developer mostly back-end oriented, but I am comfortable with front-end technologies also. I love both fields either way.

4. What impresses you the most in your field?
The way JavaScript has exploded and is evolving into such a powerful and ubiquitous tool.

5. How would you explain your job to your mum?
That’s one of the difficult parts of our job! I think I would tell her „I work behind the scenes of the websites you visit to make them look and work the way its owner wants to“.

6. Any tip concerning your field you’d like to give?
Be prepared to spend the rest of your life learning new things and re-learning what you think you know. This is an ever rapidly changing world and it takes a big effort to keep pace.

7. Which sources help you to stay up to date?
I use applications like Flipboard and Feedly to follow blogs and relevant magazines like SitePoint, Cats Who Code, Tom McFarlin’s blog or Smashing Magazine. I also try to attend meetings, workshops and meet talented people from whom to learn new things.

8. Any Apps you couldn’t live without?
Flipboard and Feedly are main tools for me. Whatsapp is also a must have to keep in touch with my friends and family. Also Evernote and Pocket to keep notes and should-read-sometime things.

9. If someone would delete the internet tomorrow, what else would you do?
I can’t imagine such an scenario except in the case of a global catastrophic event! I guess I would run back home to join my wife, open a bottle of fine catalan Cava wine and watch the big meteorite coming.

10. Tell us a secret about yourself, something you haven’t told anyone yet.
I love dancing Cuban salsa even though I am no master at all. I can make some pretty good sushi too. But my darkest secret is: never, ever ask me to sing because you will regret it for sure!

Vier Jahre Chromebook: Ein Erfahrungsbericht

Google Chromebook
