An SEO strategy for lasting visibility in search

Search behaviour is changing. Classic results, AI Overviews and AI search systems compete for attention. Clicks are long past being the only relevant form of visibility.

What an SEO strategy has to deliver today

A good SEO strategy does not only answer which keywords a website should rank for. It establishes which topics a brand must be visible for, which content and landing pages that requires, and which technical, editorial and external signals carry the most weight.

SEO has long been more than optimising individual keywords or pages. A clear strategy creates orientation and prioritises the measures that genuinely matter to the business model. Four questions guide that work:

Where do we want to be visible?
We prioritise topics, markets, audiences and search intents along the customer journey. What counts is not covering as many keywords as possible, but being visible for the searches that matter to the business.
What do we want to be seen as an authority for?
We define the strategically relevant topic areas and golden keywords that the website and its content should build towards. That creates a clear target picture for content, landing pages and organic visibility.
Where is the greatest growth potential?
We look at existing rankings, content gaps, competition, technical prerequisites and the business value of individual topics. The result is a prioritisation that serves company goals, not only SEO criteria.
How do SEO and AI search interlock?
Classic search engines and generative search systems work differently but partly draw on the same foundations. We therefore treat AI search as part of the SEO strategy from the start. GEO extends classic optimisation with targeted visibility in generative search systems.

SEO and GEO: one shared search strategy

SEO improves a website's visibility in classic search results. GEO extends that perspective to how brands and content are found, understood, named and cited in generative answers.

This is not an either-or. Technical accessibility, indexing, information architecture, high-quality content, entities and authority form the shared foundation. Classic SEO measures and GEO build on it with their own levers.

That is why we develop SEO and GEO not as separate strategies but as parts of one search strategy.

What an SEO strategy ends with

Not a document for the drawer

Not an analysis that disappears afterwards, but a prioritised plan for organic growth.

Depending on the starting point, the strategy contains:

  • prioritised topic areas and golden keywords
  • mapping of relevant keywords to existing or new landing pages
  • analysis of competition and search potential
  • technical fields of action
  • content gaps and editorial priorities
  • assessment of measures by impact and effort
  • a KPI framework for measuring success
  • a concrete roadmap for implementation

So it is clear which measures should come first, which dependencies exist and where the biggest levers sit.

How we develop an SEO strategy

01

Analyse the status quo and the potential

We analyse organic visibility, rankings, technical prerequisites, existing content, competition and search demand. The point is not to find as many errors as possible, but to establish which topics and measures actually serve the company goals.

02

Define strategic priorities

We define topic areas, golden keywords and target pages. Along the customer journey we clarify what role search plays in each phase. That produces one shared prioritisation for SEO, GEO and SEA instead of three separate strategies.

03

Develop roadmap and measures

The strategy turns into a prioritised roadmap. We rank measures by effect, effort and strategic relevance.

04

Measure the effect and keep developing

Rankings alone are not enough. Depending on the goal we look at organic visibility, relevant rankings, impressions and clicks, organic traffic, and leads, conversions and other business KPIs. We implement the measures hands-on.

The strategy produces measures such as:

  • technical optimisation
  • improving existing landing pages
  • optimising snippets and search result presentation
  • closing relevant content gaps
  • developing new content and landing pages
  • improving internal linking and information architecture
  • building topical authority and external signals

SEO does not work on its own

SEO, SEA, content and GEO should not be thought of as separate strategies. The starting point is the company goals and the customer journey: where does the audience search, which topics are relevant, and which channels and content contribute most in which phase?

SEO creates lasting organic visibility, SEA adds paid reach where it makes sense, and content supplies the right material for audience and search intent. GEO extends the shared strategy to visibility in generative search systems.
