I work in finance, i.e. everything to do with bookkeeping, invoices and payments.
Accounting and finance provide data that can be used to make clear statements about how individual areas of a company are performing. I find it exciting to be able to contribute to having company figures available at all times.
As my job has little to do with the internet, I just have to tell my mum that I do something with numbers, finance and accounting.
The two basic principles of accounting: truth and clarity. In my area of expertise, truth means that everything must be booked as it really happened. Clarity means it must be clear, unambiguous, legible, comprehensible and tamper-proof. I think you can get through life quite well with truth and clarity.
