After graduating from secondary school, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do next. By chance, I found out about a course on becoming a “state-certified media assistant” at the vocational school in Neustadt. After a consultation with the people in charge, everything already sounded very interesting. I also knew that a friend of mine, whom I have known since elementary school, had already shown his work with Photoshop, HTML & CSS. I wanted to do something creative – everything else would always be too monotonous for me.
When we had to create a very banal website in computer science class, I found that I had no idea how to write correct HTML & CSS or create a layout that looked good. Since I knew that the material taught in school was outdated, but I didn’t know how to teach myself, I sought help from my friend Timo. After we (more him than me) had created the layout with Photoshop, he showed me how to implement it in HTML & CSS.
I loved seeing something on the screen that I had created as the product started to take more and more shape. Of course, the implementation as well as the design of the website was abysmal by today’s standards. But it was amazing to see that with a few simple steps and a little finesse, my ideas could be conjured up on the screen quite easily. At that moment, I knew that I had chosen the right path. After successfully completing my entrance qualification for a university of applied sciences in 2009, I first completed an internship and a vocational training as a media designer at an advertising agency in Mannheim. After my vocational training, I worked in Mannheim for almost two more years.
However, since there were already enough employees there who were responsible for the design of websites, I was employed as a web developer, which has shaped my further career. In June 2015 I finally joined netzstrategen to implement websites and applications as a developer.
To me, web development is a super exciting and, above all, multifaceted topic that I no longer want to miss.
